Galvalume Or Galvanized Roof

This is known as a galvanized metal.
Galvalume or galvanized roof. Before the introduction of galvalume to the metal roofing industry in the late 20th century using galvanized sheet and coil was a common practice. Galvalume is offered in both bare and pre coated versions. Galvalume and galvanized steel roofing are affected differently by corrosion. The mixture of zinc and aluminum protects the galvalume metal against corrosion and rust helping galvalume typically last much longer than galvanized steel.
Galvanization or commonly referred to as galvanized is a protective zinc coating that is applied to a steel or iron substrate through a hot dip galvanizing process. Most galvalume like galvanized steel is coated. The zinc acts as a protective layer to iron or steel to prevent rust. Galvalume metal roof and siding panels are coated with a mixture of zinc and aluminum and siliconized coating to help resist scuffs and fingerprints better than a bare metal product.
Galvanized metal and galvalume metal both create stunning looks on interior and exterior metal projects. Two popular roofing materials that use this process of binding two or more dissimilar metals are referred to as galvanized and galvalume each of which use steel as the base metal. Galvanized while both products were developed to essentially sacrifice themselves to protect the steel sheeting they coat the above exposure comparison shows that galvalume performs up to nine times better in fighting corrosion as compared to galvanized coating. Aluminum has tremendous corrosion resistance so it will generally corrode more slowly than galvanized steel.
Typically galvanized sheet roofs are used mainly for agricultural buildings where rust is less of an issue and costs must be kept low. The one exception is when the coating is penetrated scratched or chipped by falling or blowing debris for example. Studies show that when used on a residential house that a galvalume metal roof will outlast a galvanized metal roof by almost double. For these reasons galvalume metal roofs are much more popular.
From galvanized steel roofing to galvalume metal roofs both finishes reinforce metal s strength performance and increase its longevity. Iron or steel can be coated with zinc.
