At the eaves when installing the drip edge on top the underlayment a 4 inch wide layer of asphalt roof cement complying with the astm d4586 type i or type ii is required. Install the step flashing before running the first row of shingles install a piece of step flashing along the sidewall so that it sits tightly against the roof. It is also sometimes called d metal for drip. Align the step flashing with the leading edge of the starter course and nail it in place using one nail in the upper corner.
T shape drip edge is an l shaped flashing in which the long leg folds back on itself before heading down 90 degrees to form the short leg. L shape drip edge is a simple 90 degree bend with a flare out at the bottom of the short leg. Hammer down any large nails that are exposed by the removal. Inspect the underlying roof sheathing for damage and make any needed repairs.
Install a layer of roofing insulation as recommended by the roofing manufacturer.
